Miyoko's Vegan Cream Cheese Review (Dairy-Free Spreads in 3 Flavors)

With only five ingredients, Miyoko’s Vegan Cream Cheese is the closest thing we’ve found to homemade. But unlike most recipes that use acidic ingredients to add tang, Miyoko cultures her cream cheese alternative for a more authentic flavor.

All of Miyoko’s products are palm oil-free, but this line up is also completely oil-free. The creamy consistency comes from a paleo-friendly blend of cashews and coconut cream. We’ve got some notes on each flavor, but tell us what you think about this product too! Leave your review and rating below.

This is meant to be the most versatile flavor, for spreading on bagels, whipping into frosting, and creating “classic” dairy-free cheesecakes. But it is a little coconut-forward in flavor, and might night work perfectly for every cream cheese need. Nonetheless, it’s thick, rich, and will provide a nice consistency whether served cold or baked.

Green onions and a dash of white pepper give this thick spread a savory flavor that is great on bagels, appetizers, or in recipes. It will even melt nicely into sauces.

Seaweed and spiced give this schmear a seafood vibe. I’ve heard rave reviews from both vegans and non-vegans on the flavor, which is best for bagels and appetizers.

I love this stuff and eat it on toast for breakfast most days. Totally bewildered by the low ratings!! I usually get the plain – not sure if I’ve tried the scallion before. I usually get nut-free stuff for baking, so I’m not sure how it works in recipes.

This is not even close to cream cheese. Spend or Pass? I say pass, they need to work on the recipe.

This was my first try of vegan cream cheese. I was not expecting it to be sour! Very sharp tang that overpowers everything and sticks around. Highly unpleasant, I actually thought I got one that’s spoiled. Wish I researched before buying!

Kinda gross actually. About the quickest way to ruin a bagel. There are waaaaay better options out there. Did they even taste this product before they sold it? Totally missed the mark.

We love Miyoko’s vegan butter; in fact, it tastes better than the dairy butter that I’ve adored all my life! But this new concoction isn’t good at all. It doesn’t deliver the promised flavors, but instead leaves an acidy after taste that is decidely unpleasant. Intend to return it to Trader Joe’s and wait for a better product we know Kiyoko’s is capable of producing.

Doesn’t taste good at all!

I’ve tried this product twice now, after being very disappointed the first time I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a bad batch. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say it tastes like vomit. Like, it tastes like something went extremely wrong. I’m one of the least picky eaters I know, yet this might be the worst tasting vegan product I’ve ever tried. Which is a shame because I typically love Miyoko products. If you want some vegan cream cheese, go for So Delicious or Kite Hill instead.

So I tried the Cashew Milk “Fish Free Lox” cream cheese, and hands down it was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever tried. I’m not vegan or on a non -dairy diet and I’m not interested in being either (nor debating it) BUT I would be foolish to say that there aren’t some good plant based alternatives out there for CERTAIN products, this isn’t one of them. When something says anything related to trying to imitate a meat product in vegan form, it’s bad enough that it usually tastes bad, but when you’re told something resembles a Lox based (read smoked fish) cream cheese, it’s bad enough that the cashew cheese is fighting the flavor of…coconut milk. I know the dairy free/vegan communities are crazy over coconut milk and coconut oil as a use for everything in cooking and in life, but on what planet did someone think that coconut goes with smoked salmon? No. This isn’t “fusion” nor creative, it’s disgusting and deceptive because I’ve basically wasted money on a nut and coconut spread that on its own, probably would have been ok had it just been those two ingredients, without trying to be sold that this purchase in any way resembles eating lox or lox “adjacent”. No. Seaweed doesn’t taste like fish. It tastes like seaweed and that’s supposed to be the lox substitute? Gross. I’ll never be buying from this company again.

I tried this because I love Miyokos butter but this cream cheese alternative does not taste good to me. It is incredibly sour. The one positive is that most vegan cream cheese has next to no nutritional value and this one has a good amount of protein thanks to the cashew milk. So if you want a sour spread for your bagel, I suppose this would be the one for you.

I am not picky when it comes to Dairy free cream cheese. I bought this from Trader Joes and can not finish it. It is so bad. The best comparison I can think of is the acidic taste one experiences after they get sick. Highly DONT recommend. Huge waste of money.
