The Coperni label closed out its runway presentation with an audience-mesmerizing garment of a completely new sort that was practically painted live on actor-model Bella Hadid. This was one of the most famous fashion events of Paris Fashion Week. Even if the Coperni show scenario was exciting, the mystery of what this magical substance was and how it became a clothing was more crucial at the time.

Manel Torres, a fashion designer by profession, developed Fabrican. Spray-on fabric, also referred to as liquid fabric, is made up of additives and polymers. Torres asserts that by blending liquid polymers with natural and synthetic fibres in an aerosol can, it changes into a non-woven material when sprayed.

The maker claims that the fabric is made by cross-linking fibres that stick together and form a “second skin” when applied to a person or item. In its patent application, Fabrican describes liquid fabric as a homogeneous mixture of fibres, a binder, and at least one diluent. The fibres must be “sufficiently small” in order to get through the sprayer. The diluent is an organic liquid, usually water or acetone, that dilutes the sample.

When these materials are exposed to air, they saturate and turn into a non-woven fabric. According to the website for Fabrican Ltd, Fabrican is a patented instant, sprayable, non-woven, spray-on material with headquarters in the UK at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre. A woman adjusted the garment after it was sprayed on Hadid, as was seen during the fashion show, and it appeared to work like any other typical dress.

On Friday, September 30, Hadid wrapped up the Spring-Summer 2023 presentation for the French label Coperni with a dress that had been sprayed on in front of a live audience. Before Manel Torres, the inventor of the unique Spray-on weaving method, and two other scientists applied the hazy liquid that turned into a wearable material in minutes, Hadid came onto the runway wearing nothing but nude underwear. The team developed Coperni’s design in real-time as onlookers marvelled for about ten minutes.
